What is a safe and simple overclock for the latest revision of the GT 555M? (GF116)

Also, would NVIDIA's System Tools software suffice for this?

I am using MSI Afterburner and it seems to work really well. I am still playing with it, so I will post more as I go.

So you have the GF116 revision and you're using MSI Afterburner? What settings are you using for the overclock? Also, is it necessary to run the program in every instance?

the gf116 is used in a variety of different cards (as is the GF106)

try 700/1000 to start off with, run 3dmark06, try playing some intense games for a few hours (skyrim, crysis2, bf3 etc) and monitor temps via the afterburner OSD, if you:

    a.) are going over 85degrees
b.) notice artifacts ingame such as purple sections, floating triangles or textures not loading
c.) have the game freeze/blue screen/the driver stops responding and clocks itself back down to standard speeds

... then drop the clock speed down to 675/975 and try again. You're unlikely to actually "damage" the cards by overclocking and you can see the GF116 is clocked at 1000mhz in some cards, other variations of the GT555M even use the GF116 clocked at a standard speed of over 750mhz anyway so it's not too fast for the chip to handle, it's simply whether you'll have the voltage or cooling to allow these clock speeds

    have a go anyway

and post results so I can be a sad panda with an older GF106 chip :p

I just started a thead with my settings and results using 3d mark 11 basic edition. Why are you using 3d mark 06. Is it better?

Not all chips overclock the same. Someone maybe able to get extreme overclocks while someone with a slight overclock may get a BSOD. Just slowly crank up the settings and test it out.

using 06 because it gives a higher number/wider variation

    either is fine though tbh
