Just wondering if anyone has a (working) fan control program that is compatible with the 1645. I here that there are quite a few programs that don't work properly and cause BSoD's.

Monitoring programs should be fine, but controlling them is a bad idea. Let the bios do it's job.

The way I see it, only two problems could come from using a fan controller, with one pretty awesome (opinion) benefit.

    The problems:
    1. The user sets a silly value like "0% fan usage" all the time. The system will then eventually crash when a high temperature is reached, with a possibility of permanent damage. I'm confident this wouldn't be a problem for me.

    2. Compatibility. The fan controller must be good at what it does for my particular system.

    The benefit:
    1. Fixing the idle fan cycle with near silence. IdeaStorm | Reduce fan noise in laptops (easy & "free" fix)

Right now Dell's BIOS controls my fans like this:
system idle, fan cycles between 0% and 20%
    light tasks, fan at 20%
heavier tasks, fan up to 100%

My one change I would make is this:
system idle, fan stays at 10% all the time
    light tasks, fan at 20%
heavier tasks, fan up to 100%
