In the NVIDIA control panel there is a Global setting that lets you set all applications to use the NVIDIA card rather than the onboard Intel graphics. Is there any reason not to choose that setting, other than reduced work when running on battery

When running tests in PerformanceTest, scores were higher when I set Global setting to use NVIDIA card for everything. I just wondered if there's any reason why that would not be a good idea.

I use nvidia on the global setting, then add the programs I want to use nvidia manually just to be sure.

Other than the battery running faster than someone who stole something, there will also be heat from the gpu, so do think about cooling measures. other than that I can't really think of anything
