Does the Inspiron 13 bode well for the M1330?

The moment I read the story I couldn't help but feel like this was an exercise in shifting stock. With the XPS' (old) parts under a cheaper chassis, the M1330 is free to have its spec. sheet bolstered with all kinds of competitive shiny new-ness.

We can only hope. The lack of even the remotest of whisperings regarding the M1330's future is driving me nuts. :)

Not sure exactly what's your point.

I think it is smart for Dell to use existing parts from m1330 to make the Insprion 13. This is like taking the Lexus parts into the next Camry.

I like how company take an award winning product and take out some cost and make some quality improvement and take it to mainstream.

I owns both XPS m1330 (my wife's) and Inspiron 13 (my), and love both system.

If the smaller Inspiron is now using the bulk of what the M1330 is, there would be no loss to Dell to change the specification of the XPS notebook, which a lot of us are waiting for. As prior stock bought in bulk could be used in the Inspiron 13 chassis instead.

That was my point, and it's entirely speculation.

Great! I love my XPS m1330 as well (actually my wife's XPS).

I think you are right about Inspiron 13 used the same design concept and components from m1330. But I don't think this is in an effort to get ride of the excess inventory. Few reasons, 1) currently there are material shortage in the industry, so excess inventory should not be an issue, 2) the purchase decision were typically made 12 weeks or more ahead of time, 3) design decision were made 6 to 9 months ahead of time. So, given those, I believe Dell simply took a awarding winning design and decided to bring it mainstream and make it affordable.

As to when is the next XPS launch, I believe it is coming, but will take time. Think about this, they just introduced Studio 15, Studio 17, Inspiron 13. So, from development resource perspective, it might take time to get around to re-fresh the m1330. Beside m1330 design is so good, why wouldn't Dell stay with it longer? CPU re-fresh is an issue. But, yet, CPU does not matter that much any more (unless you are Intel).

Beside, Engaget has not leak anything it yet, so let's wait and see.
