    Hi,

I was playing with my M1530today and the fan wasn't going (a rare occaision when that happens considering i have BIOS A11).

ANYWAY it was quiet enough for me to hear this hissing noise, sounded almost like a disc was whirring on and off inside the computer. The sound was coming from the backspace button area of the machine...

Can anyone tell me if they get this too? Its not the whirring of the HDD nor the fan, nor is it the CPU whine. Any other sounds I dont know about that it could be?

Funny you mention that... just the other day I was working in Solidworks on my M1330 and seemingly everytime I would zoom in/out or rotate my project it would make a whirring noise, definately not he disc drive though. Being that I have the dreaded 8400M GS and can't help but think that it might be the thing thats squealing, especially being that it happened while drafting. Thats my guess anyways, don't know what it would be on a 1530 though.

Choco, this could be your CPU, since Intel Mobile Centrino Duo CPUs use dynamic acceleration ( or something like that)

this was mentioned on other threads, the processor is set to go into a low clock when its not in use, but kicks in into full clock when used, this saves battery, but makes that strange noise.( most would describe it as a high pitch sound that can bother someone with good hearing)
now what i dont know is why you are hearing it from the backspace key, maybe the speaker is transmitting the sound ?

if you hear that same noise from below the laptop then it is your CPU and its perfectly normal, and yes it can sometimes be annoying, but almost all mobile intel chips have that.

hmm just trying to think what could be below the backspace key that could be making that sound...

Could it be the DVD drive trying to read if there is a disk? ( even when there is not )
