I have just purchased a Dell Ultrasharp U2311 monitor and am having problems when it is connected to my Studio XPS1340 via the DisplayPort (DP) connectors. When the laptop goes into Sleep mode, it instantly turns off (crashes). The laptop cannot then be restarted until the DP connector is removed from the laptop or from the monitor. Following power up, the laptop pauses during the boot sequence offering the usual options to restart Windows following a crash.

There is also substantial colour banding in colour gradients. It is visible in the Windows7 logon screen, in the document background in Microsoft Office 2010 Word and Powerpoint, in the startup screens of Photoshop Elements 7 and 9, in the grey background in Lightroom and anywhere where a colour gradient is displayed. NO banding is seen when connecting to the monitor via VGA, DVI directly or by a DVI to HDMI cable.

Both these problems only occur when using DisplayPort.

Is anyone else having problems using DP with this or other laptops?

Can anybody help with these problems?

    Thanks

    Geoff
