I would say that you got a pretty good deal, especially for the ram, video card, LED screen, and the 4-year warranty. However, I didn't see blue tooth, which I think you should have gone with for the $20 more that it costs. Then you could have used your gift card to buy a sweet mouse. Overall, you definitely got a good deal. However you probably could have gotten it cheaper. On my system, i waited for a 40% off deal, and was able to get a blu-ray burner and otherwise similar specs (except i got the 1080p screen), and it was only about 70 dollars more expensive. But still, good deal, congrats!!

Looks like a good deal to me. But the best? Who knows with all the coupons Dell offers? Too many to keep track of, IMO. If you're happy, it's a great deal.

epp and clicked through dell because it seems that depending on which banner or link you click on, the price and spec options are always different.

yea i head off to college in the fall so i needed to order it soon. but i wasn't really worried about the blu-ray as i wont really have any blu-ray movies to watch lol and i really wanted the led over the 1080p since it helps a ton with battery life and the 720p is fine without blu-ray. but basically i got my perfect computer :)

BTW i did get blue tooth and i also got the Creative X-FI Xtreme Audio Sound Card.

Yeah it will definitely be a great computer for college. That's why I got mine. I just hope that it isn't toooo obsolete by the time I go (I'm entering into my high school year). And I havn't used my blu-ray once yet, but I just wanted to be ready for the future, being as I have vowed to use this machine for the next four years. And a lot of people - most I am willing to bet - would choose the LED over the 1080p, and you're right, its going to help a ton on the battery life. Although I did go with the 1080p and LOVE it. But if mobility and battery stamina are a concern, I would say you definitely made a good decision. Also glad to hear you got the bluetooth and audio card, although you'll find the audio card probably won't be that practical unless you are hooking it up to an external stationary system. At any rate, congrats again, and enjoy! Now all you have to do is wait.

yea good stuff. i put my order in yesterday and its not expected to ship out till 7/21/08. i'm dieing inside lol. anyways future proofing is never bad and i'm sure it wont be obsolete. if you get top of the lines specs, computers will last 5 years easy unless you must absolutely up to date for certain work programs but i dont really see that being a problem for you. and with the 6 cell battery the led will help a ton. i heard that the brighest setting on led lcd's use less battery than the lowest setting on non-led lcd's. and as for the sound card, its mostly for music and movies and a lil gaming. but if i get some decent headphones hooked up then it'll def be worth it. i've heard the difference without them and its big. but i mean i cant really go wrong adding it in for an extra 35 dollars.

Hey, why don't you call Dell CS tomorrow or your Sales Rep, and ask them politely, to see what they can do to *upgrade* you to next day shipping ;) :)

This has worked for me and others (I had a order delay)..and I know they can do it. Just mention that you really can't wait to receive your notebook, and that the target shipping date is a bit out..So, even *switching* the shipping method would be most appreciated ;) :)

    Just a thought ;) :)

    Cin ;)

Just like OP, I am also thinking about buying a m1530 with the discounts:

    Core2Duo 2.5GHz 6mb Cache
    4GB dual channel ram
full hi definition glossy 15.4" screen
    256mb nvidia 8600m gt
    250gb 7200rpm hd
    sound blaster audigy hd
    slot load dvd+/-rw
    intel wireless N card
    3 years warranty w/ 3yr accidental
    dell wireless bluetooth internal 355

This all comes out to $2,436 - $602 instant savings - $220 student discount = $1,613 with free shipping

How does that sound? Or should I wait because July 4th time is coming along. The 602 discount is going to expire in a couple of days I think (2 days).

Through personal experience and through the observations of numerous users, the LED screens offers negligible improvements in battery life over the CCFL backlit display. Ideally, the main pros for the LED screens are longer screen life, greater brightness (as long as its not DLV CCFL), and better color reproduction (although this is contested, it will certainly become better in the future).

    Good Luck!
