Just re-ordered my XPS 15 to get the backlit keyboard and 1080p screen. Is $999 a good price for these specs? (I used the EPP) This beats the "manager discount" they offered me by $30

    i5 480
    6 GB RAM
    500 GB HD
    1 GB Optimus video card
    backlit keyboard
    1080p screen
    6 cell battery

I think my biggest concern is price drops after Sandy Bridge comes out... but I'm really not concerned with having the latest and greatest processor. Just want a good combination of performance, battery usage, and heat. This price includes a $75 off that won't be good after Wednesday.

    Thanks!

That's fine if it includes the 1080p. If you're willing to do the outlet, the same machine is around 650.00 if you can find it--but with only a 1 year warranty and no 1080p!

What will SB do to price drops? Let's assume this machine goes down 50-125 dollars in Feb. Would you still buy it? That's probably about right.

Thanks. It does only have the 1 year warranty though.

The XPS 15 that I sent back today was $759 w/o the 1080p and backlit keyboard, and I was not anxious to spend an extra $240 to get those upgrades. But hopefully it will be worth it; I was having a hard time adjusting to that 720p display after coming from a high-res Inspiron 6000. I'm not used to being able to actually see the pixel grid :)

It's a pretty good price esp since you got the 1080p screen. I was tempted to wait out for the sandy bridge but I managed to get mine with similar specs for $743+tax with Dell EPP plus a promo code that I "rainchecked" with. Mine specs are as follows:

    xps l501x
    B+RGLED 1080p
    i5 460
    4gb ram
    500 gb hd
    geforce 420m
    backlit kb

So I think me and you scored a great deal. As far as SB goes, like I always say, IT tech will evolve at a greater rate than your wallet can ever handle.

You'd be hard pressed to find better value than that in a laptop, i think you did good.
