i got my 1530 yesterday, and it is CMO 1550 for the led lcd id, so this is Chi Mei,
i search around the forum and many ppl say this brand is bad for grainy, so i am wondering, should i call Dell for replacement?
i hear that LG is the best, and Chi Mei is the worse, and samsung is so-so?
    thanks

does Chi Mei has any improvement on their led lcd screen lately?

How does it look to you?

Well, the fact that other people say it's usually grainy wouldn't make me send it back unless I actually felt so as well.

I think all the LED LCD screens are Chi Mei, and what I've heard, these are very good.

Samsung used to have some screens that were kinda bad and grainy, but recently less people have reported these, which probably means that they've run out of stock of that particular model.

Incorrect empire. Chi Mei is the only manufacturer for LED's, so there is no other option. If you wanted to get rid of the LED for a standard backlight LCD, then by all means. But if you want LED, its Chi Mei. Besides, while grainyness can occur with any manufacturer, the real issue people were having was with Samsung's, especially in the 1680x1050 resolution. Got my Chi Mei LED today...its incredible.

thanks guys, i feels great after your common, thanks alot,
but crisptito are you sure Chi Mei is the only manufacturer for LED? how you know?

well i dont see any line on the screen as ppl say when the lcd is on white background, and i did ask the tech guy what brand is my led lcd, he say lg brand, which he is lying...

also i am wondering after fresh vista install, do i install all drivers from my service tag website?
and is it normal if the bottom half of you laptop(near the touch pad) gets very hot after 20 to 30 mins?

Empire- I am fairly sure that chi mei is the only one. All of the LED threads I have read reference them as the lone manufacturer. There is a great thread on NBR started by Rhodan, that addresses displays, manufacturers and grainyness (as well as the other top subjects with the 1530). Click this link to check it out. Its an excellent read.

em, how about the heat? is it normal if the bottom half near the touch pad heat up around 20min after?

and do i install all drivers from the service tag site? after fresh install...the tech guy told me that the vista 1530 cant install xp window, as it is engineer design for the vista only?

Well, I don't care if Chi Mei is the only LED screen manufacturer. I still say that your screen is grainy.

Chi Mei is one of the leading manufacturers of LCD displays in Taiwan, so they can't be bad.

You can't just assume your screen is grainy because it's not LG. You have to actually look at it. Not all Samsung's are bad, not all LG's are good. You have to look at your screen to determine yourself if it's bad or not.

I don't know about Dell, but for Toshibas, while the standard CCFL displays are slightly grainy, the LED backlit displays are completely graineless, have better contrast, color reproduction, and clarity. Much easier on the eyes in the long run for people that use the computer for long periods of time.
