You just purchased it. So ask DELL while you're still in warranty.

they said to just take off that hinge cover and blow out the dust...so im going to wait til tomrrow so i can find the right size screwdriver...that solution sounded a little weird, so i was just wondering if anyone else ever had the same problem.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I am having the same problem. The mute button lights up when touched, but most of the time, it dosent actually do anything. Any fix for this?

This only just started happening on my machine. It worked this morning, and now it just lights up, but nothing else. Seems weird that it would just decide to stop working like that.

The only way I've been able to get the mute button back is to do a System Restore. But this only works for a day or so, talk about a major pain.

ive got the same problem with my M1530. mute button doesnt work on the multimedia board as well as the remote. i tried reinstalling the sound driver, but that only fixed the problem for a day.

i contacted dell and they're coming to replace the black multimedia board...im skeptical whether that will work though

Get VLC, go to shortcuts, go to define hotkeys, select a random hotkey, press media buttons, if you get a response it is a software glitch.
