My question is did i get a good system exchange or should i go for the m1330? I thought the m1330 would be the closest to the m1210. And is the WXGA screen just the base model screen? Thanks for the help.

I'd get the 1530 but with at least 2gb of ram, maybe 3. Get the current USD deal.

The M1530 is a "step-up" if your priorities are gaming but its a "step down" in portablilty compared to the m1210 so...

What kinds of tasks do you plan on do with the new laptop and do you plan to carry it/travel with it.

Also fill out the FAQ(it will help use see what your needs/wants are)

Are you looking for similar mobility or are you ready to give up mobility to more graphic power? I do agree XPS M1330 is close to your previous xps m1210. If you are absolute in need for mobility I would request a M1330 or If you think you can live with a 15.4" notebook with more power I'll keep M1530. Either way you are getting newer system from Dell.

And yes 1200X800 is the base screen, and since you are coming from 12" notebook, I guess you can live with 1440X900 or better on M1530. Of course this guess is coming ffrom your comfort level with previous notebook resolution.

If I were you, I would ask for better resolution if you are getting M1530. It wouldn't hur just to ask.

If you want the m1330, just contact them and let them know you require the portability of the M1330. Manners is paramount however because they do not do system upgrade of such every day. I got the M1330 upgrade free from the M1210 because of squealing.

If you have a squealing background, this also may be why they are jumping you to the M1530. It hasn't experienced the 'high pitch squealing' issues that was extremely prominent in the 1210 and less so but still there in the 1330.

Oh and Congrats!!!!!! The Comp Xchange/Upgrade group in Dell is very small indeed.

cool i would like to thank everyone's help so far. it has already shipped to me and should be here Monday 12/31/07. I'm just worried about the WXGA (1200 x 800) screen now. Would it look good on a 15'' as on a 12'' or would it be degraded since it is a bigger screen with essentially the same resolution. How hard would it be to switch out the screen to a higher resolution screen if i find it to be a real difference on how it looked before. i decided i will keep the 1530 as long as the screen is fine with me.

It would be pretty hard getting any further upgrades now that it has been shipped. I wish I had known this prior. There were a few tricks to getting complimentary upgrades when they called and walked you through the configuration. Unfortunately, its late for that now.

If you have some experience it won't be so difficult replacing the screen yourself, but there are so many things that can go wrong. When I first opened and exchanged my M90 screen, I was sweating like pig because I was sticking flat screw drivers between the gaps (anything and everything can go wrong here) and the uncomfortable plastic cracking sounds that came out when I finally inserted the screw drivers and opened it. Overall fun experience if you succeed.

    As for the resolutiion...
I guess you'll find out soon enough. I am still waiting for mine. Seem like taking forever, longer then many users here. :(

NO...they wouldnt be sending out Refurb M1530s just yet...too new. You will be getting a new one but they may have just went by your old configuration. With me we walked through every option individually and I was told before hand that if I requested an upgrade I had to state that "it was a performance upgrade consideration of the newer model"

So they upgraded my LCD/LED, HD (80Gb-160Gb7200), VistaPrem to Ult.
