    Hello,

First off, let me say that I am generally pretty computer savvy. However I know that all of you together will most likely be better at helping me with this.

My computer is approx 8 months old. It is a Dell XPS L501X, Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1.

FYI: I have my keyboard set to "MULTIMEDIA KEY FIRST," so instead of pulling up windows help when i hit "F1" I instead adjust the display output setting. Now for some background.

About one week ago, my computer freaked out. This was most likely my fault (torrent). I was recieving registry error messages. To make that story short, I fixed it. Everything is back to normal.

EXCEPT my F4 and F5 keys will not change the contrast...all of my other keys work. the contrast adjustment slider comes up, but will not move, and the brightness does not change. Please Help.

    What I've Tried
    1. restarted computer.
    2. ran computer in safe mode
    3. scanned and searched for bugs
    4. scanned registry
    5. updated drivers (GUI/input)
    6. set function keys first.
    7. tried pressing "fn" first.

    Any Ideas?

Can you change the brightness from power option or mobility center?

Mobility Center is a no go, and the power options don't show a brightness/contrast setting. (i thought it did before?)

Dell Quickset is a utility from Dell that enables a lot of little features like the touch buttons, and sometimes those secondary function keys. Give it a go and maybe that will clear you up. It is available on the Dell downloads section for you laptop's service tag.
