Im really close to buying the XPS 15. But then I saw the ASUS G51 or the G53 and thought hummm..
Just to give you an idea what what I really am looking for is this
    I5 Processor
    Blu Ray
    backlit keyboard.
    9cell battery.
HDD of 7200 rpm. (size doesnt really matter)
at least 1gb of video memory

Im up in the air about
Amount of ram installed, I figured I can always up grade
    blue tooth option
and between the 720p screeen vs the 1080p screen. I have heart pros and cons about both. I have seen the 1080p screen and even tho the icons can be changed, its still pretty small for the average set of eyes.

What I would be using it for is perhaps some gaming. Photo editing, watching movies while traveling. 3d would be nice, but not a requirement. I figured I would have this laptop for the next 3-4yrs. So thats why I figured on the blu ray. Most of the movies I will buy from here on are Blu Ray.

I like the dell because I can customize it and order it from the dell site where the Asus is non customizable and have to search thru various sites to find.

If you owned the Dell XPS would you order another one, or would you of gone ASUS.

    Thanks for your help

It really depends on what you are doing. ASUS G series are pretty much dedicated to gaming. Dell XPS can pretty much only do moderate gaming...but is geared towards more professional work.

The ASUS GPU will take the beat down the XPS GPU and take it's lunch money.

    Asus.
The cpu/gpu performance is well above the xps, no doubt about it.

I was in the same dilemma. I was looking at them both as well. I really wnated to go Asus but I couldn't justify paying several hundred dollars more for it. I wanted a 1080 screen, blu ray player, 7200 rpm hd, backlit keyboard, and internal bluetooth. I got all of that for $1100 XPS. For that price you aren't even in the ballpark for a basic Asus G series

go with the XPS. I got mine yesterday and the screen and sound are just awesome. You won't be disappointed.

all for $1100? How did you get it for that price? If I customized it myself with the i5, and the blu ray..bluetooth..1080p it would end up being $1400.
I appreciate the honesty. I dont know if I would end up gaming. I do have to plan for possible games. I might want to install Black ops as soon as I get it. But it would be nice to be able to play games, watch blu ray, edit photos and have a backlit keyboard.
So do you think one should wait for the next gen xps L502x or just get the L501x?

Dell jacked up the upgrade on the 1080p screen from once 90 dollars to now 230 dollars.

I saw that the 1080p upgrade was $220, that is pretty steep. But is it worth it? If Im going to be watching Blu ray, would the 720p do? Or is it worth the 220 bucks?

If you don't want to do it yourself, I would pony up the money.
