Hey guys, apoligies if this has been posted before.
I have been having a problem with most of my games where if i change the mode to DX10 i get black borders around the screen, changing back to dx9 mode makes this problem go away.
If i change the resolution to 1920x1200 which is the max resolution of the monitor, there are no bars, but if i decrease the res to say 1280 x 1024 the bars are back. Here are some screenshots of the problem :

    DX10 @ 1024 x 768

    DX9 @ 1024 x 768

does any1 know a way to fix this? thank you

Try increasing the resolution. Sometimes the video card doesn't zoom in enough and leaves that black border.

hi zakbain, i tried all resolutions and found the borders decrease as i increased the res, until i got to 1920 x 1200 where they were gone. I want to decrease the res so i can get better frame rates.

Try this to remove GPU scaling:

    1. From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under Display, click Adjust desktop size and position
    2. Click the image that represents your display
    3. Select Do not scale, then click Apply.

    If you have ATI:

    1. Select the monitor, "Digital Display"
    2. Go to Attributes
    3. Check off "Enable GPU Scaling"
    4. Select "Use centered timings"
    5. Click "Apply" or "OK"

Ive tried all scaling settings in the control panel, and still no luck, i was able to play crysis a few days ago with a lower res, so im not sure why its doing this now

I think the problem is the aspect ratio.
With a 16:10 aspect ratio, try choosing
    1200x750
    or
    1024x640

@zakbain The M1730 is a 16:10 display and not uses an ATI card, but uses an Nvidia SLI card.

I would suggest updating Crysis to the latest version and GPU to the latest drivers if you haven't done so and avoid using lower end 4:3 resolutions which will cause the bars to appear, SLI does not scale properly with those settings and performance to in fact, suffer then help.

Try using 1680x1050 instead. That is a step down from 1920x1200. I see no black bars on that resolution.

I got to be honest, I've an M1730 and had no reason to scale to lower than 1920x1200 resolution in Crysis. Unless you're using an 8700M GT SLI setup, 1680x1050 + Medium setting setup is more than enough to achieve full constant 30fps gameplay.

LOL. 9800M GT SLI setup is great. I know some users with 9800M GT SLI/8800M GTX SLI running 1200p resolution on Crysis with no issues. Check out the M1730 owner's thread a couple of clicks down on this XPS forum... There are even tweaks optimized for our GPUs to run Crysis better. ;)

ok ive managed to come up with a work around, basically i just need to change the desktop resolution to whatever res i want to play in game. I tried updating the drivers and games but still had no luck, help is appreciated though.
SomeFormOfhuman, ill have to try those tweaks you mentioned, any idea which owners thread it is though? i see three of them lol

Hi, I just specting the same thing here.
I'm running an 8800m GTX sli (wich is basically the same 9800m GT card), and noticed same DX10 games not scaling.
I noticed also it is depending on forceware drivers, I did not spect with 185.85, I think it's hapenning with 2xx (but not sure)...
Since there is not a common trouble, perhaps is with something we both have installed.
    Cheers.
