I have a Dell XPS M1530 which is refusing to boot. As soon as it switches on the rown of LEDs on the status panel under the screen flash one after another (which I think is normal) then the screen goes white and stays white. There are no POST beeps or flashing lights. I have tried the following to get it to boot:

    - Connect an external monitor to see what is going on. All I get is 'signal not supported'. Tried on two different monitors

    - Reseated the memory. No effect

    - Removed the memory completely. On switch on the screen goes white, but the three leds on the left are flashing. I assume this is a POST type thing?

    - Replace the DIMMS one at a time. With either or both installed, I get white screen, no flashing lights or beeps.

I am thinking fried motherboard or GPU (which I believe are one and the same on this laptop).

Any other advice or opnions out there???

    Thanks in advance,

    Mijj

I believe it's the GPU as you can't connect to an external monitor. Thankfully, Dell extended the warranty on the XPS M1530 by 3 years (for models with the 8600GT) It's time to call Dell and let them handle the situation from here.

HERE, is the information on the Extended Warranty on the GPU.

Firstly, do you still have any warranty left on your 1530? If so, you will need to address via your warranty first.

And, advise replacing the Mobo/GPU is a temporary fix...nothing of a resolve.

Thanks for the replies. Why would replacing the mobo/gpu only be a temporary fix?? If that is the problem, wouldnt it solve it?

But they are making the implication that Dell hasnt actually solved the GPU failure issue.

Therefore getting it replaced would only mean you get a ticking time bomb installed into your laptop. After that its a waiting game until the problem comes back.

And yes, its definately a fried GPU
