OK, I want to buy a 1 year old XPS that is for sale. It already has 1 7200rpm 100GB HDD and I wanted to know if I could add another one and use them in RAID. And I also wanted to know what the biggest CPU is that I could add? And I want to load Vista Ultimate 64bit, is that a good idea. I don't know a whole lot about computers but enough to work on them and fix them and I basically want something that is fast for under 1500. Is there anything I should know about these? Problems?

It is possible, but you have to get a HD caddy that fits the cd drive, which leads to no internal cd/dvd drive.

Search Ebay for "2nd hard drive caddy for Dell"

M1710's highest CPU option is T7600G (G is OC'able), but the price is still up there.

Best Graphics option, which is the most important IMO is Nvidia 7950 GTX (OC'ed 7900GTX), 7900 GTX (512mb ram), then 7900GS (256mb ram).

It's pretty solid system, and it boils down to what spec you are buying, @ what price.

OK, right now it has a NVIDIA 7900 GTX 512 MB. Can I add another card? I don't want to not have an internal cd drive so I guess 1 HDD it is. Can I add a sencond card and if so what kind? Thanks for the help!

No you can't. That's pretty much high as it will get. You can unlock it's bios, and OC it (if the card's bios was never unlocked which is dell's default, you won't be able to OC).

Make sure the system still has warranty left.
