i have a used Dell XPS M1710.I wanted to try to clean the laptop fans because it's old and so far i got to removing the keyboard and the hinge covers and from there what do i have to do to get to the fans? Also is there a way to call a Dell person to walk me through the process of taking apart my laptop?

My M1710 previously had overheat-shutdown problems, but using a pull-fan cooling base seems to have fixed it.

I've tested both push and pull fan cooling bases for my M1710. I was expecting the push fan to work better than the pull fans based on previous posts in these forums, but to my surprise, pull-fans worked better by drawing hot air away from the bottom of the laptop. Just make sure that they don't block the intake vents near the rear of the M1710. Otherwise they will interfere with the laptop's normal cooling.

You can give Dell XPS Premiere Support a call if you have questions about getting to the fans, but odds are that they'll want to send an onsite tech to maintain any active warranties.

you might not need to open the whole thing.

I would recommend to use a lot of compressed air (from canned air or compressor set to 50PSI).

    Focus on the vents.
