    Hi guys & gals,

I recently purchased a Dell XPS M1530 laptop with a customised spec and have been more than happy with it so far. The only thing I've come across is that the wireless seems to remain disabled after the laptop has been put to 'sleep'. On further investigation it appears that this is a common problem with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network card that ships with the M1530's when running under Vista. Mine came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.

I've read a fair few forums and blogs that offer advice, but nothing seems to solve the issue. I've tried the Dell driver update ( http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...=5&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=220548) to no avail. I've also tried a driver update from the Intel site ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... Vista* Home Premium, 32-bit version&lang=eng) which also made no difference.

I see a few people on here have the same laptop, so I'm guessing some of you must be experiencing the same issue.

Has anyone got any advice as to how to solve the problem? If not solve it, how to reduce the amount of times that this annoyance occurs?

    Thanks for looking! :)

The Dell 1505 wireless card is known to cause this problem. There have been multiple posts around about this. Here is a site that describes the issue:

    http://www.wirelessforums.org/alt-i...ing-dell-1505-wireless-n-mini-card-37466.html

    Which says:
Honestly, your solution may be to just get the 4965 card and install that instead.

You could try and reinstall the drivers from scratch (download the drivers, keep them safe, uninstall them, safe mode, install, and try)

    maybe, just maybe.

    Thanks for the rapid replies!

How would I go about replacing the 3945 with the 4965?

Which drivers should I try do you reckon? The Intel ones have the latest release date, but the Dell one's are specific for the laptop...

Ah wait, you have an Intel 3945? Judging by the problem I was under the impression you had a Dell 1505 card.

I think this pretty simple. The 4956AGN card can be bought for around £25 and it's a fairly straightforward job to replace, following the online Dell service manuals. Don't bother with the Dell drivers for this either, just go straight to the source and download the latest intel ones.

    Cool, sounds good.

Any idea where I can get one from?

Forget the last post, I was search for Intel 4956, not 4965. £23.50 delivered is a good price.

So it's an easy job to open up the M1530 and swap the NIC then?
