Bought my computer in May 2008 and the battery indicator now says I have to replace it. I went to DELL's site and saw a new six-cell is around $135, but also looked on eBay and saw that there are a ton of "genuine, original" batteries available for $30-40. Obviously that sounds great.

I was just curious if anyone has gone this route with success AND/OR if they have a recommended seller on there that is trustworthy and sells good products. Seems they are all from China, which almost makes me want to trust they're getting the batteries from the manufacturers. (Their ratings are also in the 99s).

    Thoughts/suggestions?

    Appreciate it everyone.

    A few suggestions.

I would only buy an OEM for my lappy.

Also, if your not going to and buy elsewhere:
Check the reviews, and check the product numbers.

Are those "genuine" batteries new or do they have excessive charge wear? As long as it says Dell and is genuine. Just avoid "compatible" as that implies 3rd party.

All of the sellers have very positive reviews and yes, the "genuine" batteries are all brand new. They sell DELL and have the right numbers and everything. They look exactly the same as the one I pulled out of my laptop.

^^I would still just go with an OEM battery and not chance it. But that, is just my opinion.

I got the 9cell for my m1530 from a company called ATC LLC on Amazon in June. It works well and lasts about 3hrs. The only issue is watch the speaker cover when installing, the battery likes to miss the tab.

I bought one from Ebay for my m1530 and it lasted over a year without any issues. Under 2 years before it started to cause a bit of a problem. Sometimes it will boot up with low battery and then die. I power it back on and it then displays approximately 1/3 battery life left... but sometimes it will die even if the battery life shrinks down to 1/2 displayed on the icon.

Friend bought one from Ebay and after 9 months it would not charge up fully.

If you buy it cheap, just be prepared for one year or less... but if you get more, then that's a bonus.

Did you get a "DELL" "genuine" battery though? Or did you get one you knew was a knock-off?

Yeah, it said "genuine" on there with the part number... looks like TK330. Made in KOREA. I got about a year's worth out of it, so honestly, I don't expect it to be better than the OEM. One of the two batteries I purchased from Dell WITH the laptop (9-Cell) died on the exact day my warranty expired. I did not even notice it until the tech mentioned it to me.

If the knock-offs that I pay less than $50 for can handle at least a year, then I'm happy... Dell charges an arm and leg for replacement battery... and that does not guarantee me that it will last me over one year!

    That's how I feel.

$30 on eBay vs. $150 to DELL. If I have to buy five batteries, it's worth it.

    Thanks for the advice.

But just be careful who you buy it from on EBay, I tried to help my friend contact the seller for one (I don't recall which seller) seller to replace his battery that died within 12 months and the seller ignored my requests. So... just make sure you buy from someone who isn't too shady on EBay... it's just as bad to get ripped off (not that I'm saying the Ebay seller did it on purpose) from Ebay and not be able to get it resolved like you would be able to from Dell (at least under warranty with Dell you can be sure you can find a way to get a replacement from them). Good luck.
