I was just curious on which OS would be best for gaming for the XPS 1530.

My laptop hasn't arrived yet, but the specs are in my sig.. Should I stick with Vista Home or whipe it clean to XP?

Well, with XP you need less memory, but vista with 3GB is plenty. So, id say stick with vista for the extra features and good looks. SP1 Beta is released and regular SP1 is coming soon to work out the bugs. Everyday updates will work out the glitches too.

I've never used Ubuntu before, but I have heard good things. I'd like to stick with a Microsoft OS though.. I don't want to run into any driver issues. Any comments on Vista Vs XP for gaming? I know Vista usually has alot more processes running in the background, so wouldn't XP be my best choice? Or would reformatting my laptop and doing a fresh vista install be just as good?

Software should be free. Why pay for something, when you can legally get anything you want from the open source?

Vista comes with my laptop, so I'm not directly paying for it. And as stated before, I'd like to stick with a Windows OS. It's what I'm use to and seems to be my best option for gaming.

You could have bought it with Ubuntu. Anyways, you can always return Vista to Dell for a cool cash!

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach group. Personally I am still using Windows XP. The only reason is because my computer is not as powerful as yours. If you have Vista installed I would say keep. Beside SP1 for Vista is coming, so it's is worth keeping it and saving yourself the hassle of reinstalling.

    Good of luck!

I don't think you'll get a better gaming experience from XP, and you'll be able to play DX10 games you can't play on XP. There's probably some games that don't play right on Vista because of compatibility problems, but I'd wait until that is actually a problem before switching.
