Hello all, I pulled the trigger today and got an XPS M1530 today since they are having the crazy sales apparently. Fully loaded, T9300, 4GB RAM, WUXGA, all that jazz. I have a few questions though.

    1. I am scared that I will get a crappy WUXGA screen (i.e., the Samsung one? Isn't the LG one the better one? I am basing this all off my experience buying my T60 last year). Does Dell have a place where I can identify which screen I got before it even arrives?

    2. It says estimated ship date to be the end of next month (~5/20). Are these shipping estimates accurate?

    3. Those of you that already have an M1530, can you make any suggestions about what you like, dont like, programs handy for it?

    1) You can't identify what screen you could get before it arrives. The people in the factory will just grab what ever happens to be on the shelf at the time. There's nothing in the e-mails or anything to identify what you're getting. You just gotta pray...

    2) The estimated date is usually not accurate. Your laptop will surely arrive before the estimated date. Usually, a new estimated date that is accurate is sent when you get the shipping confirmation e-mail.

    3) The XPS M1530 is great. It could get a little hot on the left sometimes because the HDD is under, and the slot loading drive could get noisy every once in a while, but other than those things, its a very stylish and great high performance laptop... my specs are quite low compared to yours, but it runs Crysis very well on medium. That being said, yours should have some awesome performance...

    Hope that helped!

Troy install the drivers from here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
and scrap those Dell knock-off Nvidia drivers, and you could run Crysis on high settings.

I can do it on a Vostro with DDR2 memory. So no doubt you can do it on your XPS if you install the better drivers.

You can request your service tag from Customer Support once you laptop has shipped. Then you can look at the components in your Dell account under Support, My Systems & Peripherals. So you will be able to see which screen you are getting prior to delivery.

Ok, I guess your right. But I was right about the fact that you just get whatever screen the factory happens to have... oh and yea, I actually can play Crysis on high. It's just that theres a little bit more pop-up. This may be just me, but as stated, get drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. Other than thatm you're good to go! :)

Yea I could not resist that 3 day sale either. Ordered my M1530 today too. Did not beef it up as much, but did take the top one and bumped the HD to the 320.

The salesman told me the delay in shipping (mine is set for no later than May 13th) was a shortage in batteries cells due to a fire in a Lipo factory overseas.

But what is up with those sale item XPS's. $800 off  Are they the same ones everyone else is getting? Hope they dont have refurb parts or something.
