My machine is 5 yr. old. So Dell does not extend warranty service any more. I now have a peculiar problem. Suddenly I find that my DVD Drive is not able to read some CD/DVDs but it reads other CD/DVDs? Recently, I upgraded my DTP software but the new CDs were not read. Ultimately the DTP SW supplier used an external DVD drive and installed the upgrade version. I was at their premises. On returning home I tried a few other DVDs and CDs. They were read properly.
Can any member help? What do I do to solve this problem? I do a lot of travelling and it will be difficult to work without a reliable DVD drive.
Incidentally, my present DVD drive is the 3rd one provided by Dell under warranty i.e. the drive has been replaced twice. In fact except the keyboard every other part of my machine has been replaced by Dell at least twice - LCD screen, motherboard, wireless card, webcam, webcam cable, etc. I found it to be an extremely unreliable product.

Sounds crazy, but try blowing out the inside of your DVD drive with a can of compressed air. I've done that whenever I have encountered DVD problems, and it works after that. Could just be some dust on the lens or something.
