Looks like Dell is already preparing new specs. Most likely based on Intel's Huron River. More here.

Well it's bound to happen, i cannot understand the point of all the NVIDEA 3D without having the screen. Bit annoyed they didn't offer this from the start but then i needed a new lappy now so had no choice. It will be interesting to see what the prices are like though considering the 1080 upgrade is £170 in the UK or on the Peru site £20 (work that one out).

That blog is pretty reliable. I'm pretty sure we'll see the machine coming out soon, either during or after the Christmas hols.

An Australian review of the L701X (which they, for some reason, call the 1710X) looked at a model with a touchscreen:

    Dell XPS 17 (1710X) - reviews - Notebooks - Gaming - PC World

The specs from the machine make it clear that it is a current L701X, so I'd be very surprised if they bothered to create a new XPS 17 model for that purpose.

But they pretty much have to create new versions of all of them for Sandy Bridge, which is now only about 6 weeks away from release.

Yep. I wonder if they'll make any other small changes when this happens.

Yeah, besides 1080P (hopefully) for me I would like to have a "slot loading" Blue/Ray DVD SB (when it comes out) 2 USB 3.0 ports and one of those new radeon 6000 series graphics cards. I also would like to have the option of a piano black finish like that xps 16 (probably asking too much to have that stuff I guess)

I don't really care much for the multitouch or 3D additions.

Not that it matters to me since optical drives are obsolete, but I don't see what anyone likes about a slot-loading drive. I'd much prefer a tray loading drive since it's actually compatible with all disks and has a lower probability of failure and, beyond that, I'd prefer it to be mounted in a media bay so it's more easily removed.

Tray-load drives just seem so flimsy to me...also it's an extra step to have to eject it and take the CD out or put it in.

But I guess with a slot-load, if something goes wrong, the CD is kind of stuck in there...

Also, I have one word on the "L702X": FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE... :D

They also can't read the mini discs, especially those shaped like business cards.

Regardless, the first thing I do when I get a laptop is remove the optical drive and replace it with a hard drive. I've been doing that for close to 7 years now.

According to a Dell insider the L502x and L702x will be announced in one week at CES and will go on sale in February.
