    Hello All...
I have a Dell XPS L502X (i7) running Windows 7 and a completely stock config...which includes the Waves MaxxAudio3 strip in the upper right above the keyboard which includes the following active buttons/sensors switches:
    - Dell Audio by Realtek
    - Dell instant Launch Manager
    - Windows mobility Center
I have had virtually no problems with this machine until today...
I was cleaning my keyboard with a lens cleaning wipe (after I cleaned my glasses...so it was pretty dry) while listening to a YouTube video. As I wiped down the keyboard surface, the Dell sensors activated and I continued down the keyboard with the wipe...
THEN THE SOUND WENT OFF ... I had muted it (...red icon showing) but after I un-muted the sound bar the sound didn't come back on.
I have tried to no avail to restore the sound since
    - Control panel indicates the Realtek high definition audio is the default (only) device.
    - Device Manager indicates the Realtek HD audio is working properly
I almost remember there being two audio devices...a Realtek and an Intel.

The strange thing is that Netflix sound still works perfectly but YouTube sound is off.

    All suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Have you checked that your browser's volume hasn't been muted/decreased? If you left click in the Windows volume control in the taskbar, and then select "Mixer" you'll see the individual volume sliders for each application that uses the sound device. You might have accidentally muted your browser only, which might explain why NetFlix works but YouTube doesn't.

Thanks...that may be how it went.

My computer rebooted last night (involuntary) and the sound was back this morning.

However now I have random sound clips playing...

I habitually put my ear buds in this morning when I powered up over my first cup of coffee ... as soon as the I started Firefox (browser) I got to listen to an instruction of "How to juice a prickly pear"...from the Google search string.

Later...as I was listening to news another sound clip played (+/- 30 secs).

So...thanks for the advice. Its a good piece of deduction reasoning. I'd really like to know if anyone else has experienced random clips playing. I'll start another thread if this problem continues.

In the absence of further commentary shall we consider this thread closed?

    Thanks again...
