    Hi Everyone

I'm considering an upgrade to my current laptop and was debating between the Dell XPS 17 and the Alienware M17X. I realize the Alienware can handle games much better than the XPS, but I'm not really that hardcore of a gamer. The only game I am really concerned about performance-wise is FSX. Does any owner of the XPS 17 with GT555m video run this game? How well does it run and how high are your settings? Generally, I don't mind dropping the resolution down to 1366 x 768, as to me this still looks very sharp. But, I would hope I could still run the game with all other settings maxed out and still maintain a minimum 25 fps (especially flying around NY City). Also, FYI, I'm not interested in overclocking, as I'm concerned this will shorten the computer's life (I suspect this contributed to the death of my XPS Gen 2).

If I can get good performance on the XPS 17, then I will rule out the more expensive Alienware.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    hey Rayt

    I've got an XPS 17 L702X and FSX :D

I've tested it on ultra high settings with resolution of 1920x1080 flying around New York, and managed an average of 19 FPS. It's a bit jerky in places but on the main feels pretty smooth. I used the overclocked settings too and didn't really notice a difference which is a bit of a surprise. I've noticed around an 8 FPS increase on all games using the overclock settings, but not FSX

I expect dropping the resolution is going to increase the FPS

    anyway hope that helps

    Hi Andyguk

Thanks for your reply. You just helped me make up my mind. And by the way, I believe that FSX is set up to limit the frame rate to whatever the preset value is. I think if you change that value in the system settings you might see an increase in frame rates. If you have a chance, let me know if it works.

    Thanks again,
