    Dell XPS 1530, i/o error?

    I'm not sure what happened, the kids were playing and all of a sudden it shut down. Restarted and shows an i/o error with the "winload.exe" file name.

    I ran the diagnostics, and everything seemed to pass the test, but right at the end it shut down and didn't restart. Still the problem remains.

    I'm thinking it's the cd drive which is causing the problem because before it was just spitting out the discs, never taking them in, I never really had time to fix THAT issue so left it. Now I think that came back to bite me?

    What can be the cause?

    Vista Os, Premium
    Dvd+/-rw, 8X, 1530, Teac Inspiron DVD+/-RW..., 8, Slot, 1530 Teac
    Fujitsu Hard Drive, 120GB, 7.2K SE080

    Aaah crap! I was cleaning the heat sink and everything, put everything back together and run diags again just to see what comes up, bam! Says error code 2000-0146 "Self Test log contains previous error(s)" -- has the HDD died? PLEASE TELL ME NO..... :(

    Any thoughts? I have checked out the drive and it's showing up fine....
