    Dear All,

I just have opened my new Dell XPS-15. This have below Two Graphic Cards
    1) Intel Graphics(64MB) and shared with RAM
    2) NVIDIA Geforce 420 GT of I-G.B.

By default "Intel Graphics" are enabled but I want to activate NVIDIA for some of my applications like CAD Software. How can I switch to NVIDIA???

Either system itself jump to NVIDIA or we have to set it first?

Can I choose b/w Intel and NVIDIA according to my application???

    Please advise...

    M Shahid

If the program you want to use needs the graphics power of the nvidia gpu, then the nvidia gpu will automatically switch on. It will turn off when you close the program that needs it. You shouldn't have to do any modifications to the settings. Make sure to download the latest nvidia drivers direct from nvidia as well as their control panel. It will allow more customization of the card itself as well as give you better performance.

Well for one, you have Nvidia's dreaded Optimus which is infamous for having issues with CAD and PS. The best thing is to download the latest drivers.

Do you have or have you personally used an XPS 15 w/Optimus and Photoshop or CAD?

I have. I used Photoshop CS4 Extended x64 extensively, along with all the other web premium programs with my XPS 15 when I had it.

    It performed flawlessly.

can u just right click on the shortcut and u can select

Run with graphics processor -> High performance Nvidia processor or the intel integrated graphics.

also in the nvidia control panel, you should be able to set programs to use the nvidia card. under manage 3D settings -> program settings, select the program, and then select the preferred graphics processor for this program.

Usually it's automatic and will auto-detect which programs need the nvidia processor, but i found that Arma II and Crysis 2 used the intel card for some reason, so i just used the right click -> run with graphics processor...
