Hi I just bought an l502x this month and got news of the 15z release. Any thoughts if I should return my l502x for 15z? Thanks.

I personaly would stay with the l502x, but if you really want a thinner laptop than return it.

    I would say no.

Yo will not be able to get a BluRay drive and the battery is non-removable from what can be seen.

Yes, the XPS 15 more bulky, but not sure if this is a criteria for you.

Can anyone confirm the type of optical drive on the 15Z?

The Dell specs call it a tray load, however the pictures appear to be a slot load.

    It is a slot load.

I don't think the XPS 15z has the B+RGLED screen, just a regular 1080p screen.

I'm concerned that the XPS 15z's 1080p screen is not as good as the B+RGLED 1080p of the L502x. Also I would expect there could be potential cooling issues with the 15z as it is thinner whereas the L501/2x has a great cooling system.

It isn't. It's a WLED display, with presumably 60% color gamut rather than 95%, and according to Engadget the viewing angles aren't necessary the best.

It'll still produce a nice picture and give you the same great 1920x1080 realestate, but it's in a different league than the B+RGLED screen.

Since screen quality is of extreme importance to me, I don't see a reason to trade in my XPS 15 for now then. And I actually like the form factor of the XPS 15, it feels solid and doesn't try to be a macpro wanna-be.

Yeah I guess I'll just stick with this one then. Since, 15z is quite new I don't want to get those problems along with 1st gen products. Plus I don't have any problems with my l502x atm, I really like the reso, the screen, and JBL speakers.

I'm in Canada as well and the specs they are offering right now are the basic ones. I would want the same specs as I have with my l502x.

Anyway, do you know if it is possible though? For me to return my l502x and get a new 15z?

I was considering the same thing, but I'm thinking I'm going to stick with my XPS 15... I didn't opt for the Blu-ray drive only cause much of the media these days can be obtained via a soft copy. I will however be replacing my dvd drive with a caddy and additional HDD cause I've already changed out the stock drive to a 80 GB SSD.

Also another reason I think I'm staying with my XPS 15 is because of the unmatched JBL speakers. I have not seen a notebook that even comes close in terms of sound. I have no idea why Dell would take the JBL out of the 15z...

So what do you guys think? Is the smaller, mbp wanna-be form factor a good trade off for B+RGLED screen, JBL speakers, 2.0mp webcam and quad core on the XPS 15?
