Dell XPS 15 Cannot recover using Recovery partition??

    Hey,

I just formatted my C drive, and I have kept the recovery drive. I did a full format, and now when I press F8, I cannot go into the recovery mode to factory restore the computer......The recovery drive is still there.

I did not make recovery disks......

Please tell me how to access Recovery drive and recover my computer to factory defaults.

    Thanks

To access your recovery partition for newer Dell

Hit F8 and repair my computer and go to the most bottom option.

If you can't access the repair my computer option there is always a chance your recovery partition is hosed. Your best bet then is to contact Dell about recovery media as you can get free recovery media from Dell WHILE it is still under warranty.

There is a form you can fill out that allows a free replacement set even out of warranty as long as you have not requested them previously. I'll have to hunt down the link if someone needs it though. It was directed to me by a dell rep a while back and it is still live last I checked. Doesn't seem that many know about it.

Would be good to have the link to request the recovery media. I'm not able to create my recovery disks for some reason :(

If you have a bootable win7 cd, you could try this too.

Boot from CD, when you get to the install prompt, click repair my computer. If its a Dell CD, you may have a factory image restore listed, if so try that, if not, move on.

Open command prompt, and enter the following.

    (assumming D: is recovery partition)
    path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32
    d:
    CD Tools
    PCRestore

    If that fails, try imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\
(once again, assumming D: is the recovery partition, and C: is your empty partition)

    Good Luck!
