My laptop has a problem where any pressure applied to the palm rest just right of the shift and right arrow key causes the laptop to short and immediately shut off. The problem only occurs in that area and only when pressure is applied from the top. If i press the shift and right arrow key in with usual typing force i am also able to make the laptop shut down immediately. Does anybody know what's beneath that part of the palm rest? I've opened the laptop up and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong. Even with the SSD out i am still able to make the laptop shut off by pressing in that area so i don't believe it is an issue with the SSD.

It's a loose electrical connection somewhere on your laptop. If you are very lucky, it would be a loose cable that your might be able to self-repair. But it probably isn't that simple (cable-based connections are usually for sub-systems that are peripheral to the main motherboard, like audio, speakers, display).

Loose connections that affect laptop power delivery are probably caused by a loose connection somewhere on the motherboard. There isn't really a way to self-repair that, unless you replace the entire motherboard. If your laptop is under warranty, call it in. If it is it if warranty, then either line with the problem, or replace the motherboard

A few other ideas to try.

The 9550 RAM can work its way loose. Try taking out the RAM cards and replacing them carefully. Do not touch the contacts and make sure the clips fully engage.

The m.2 SSD seems to be a secure bay but you might try tightening the screw (it is not a normal phillips so make sure to use the proper JIS bit).

Here is what i do. Ihad the same issue caused by battery swelling at first but after removal of battery the issue stayed. It seems 2 boards are sticking together when you apply pressure on chassis. The fix is to just separate both parts. I placed a piece of paper in between of the two.
