Hey all. I have just received a new XPS 15 (L502x), and it's all good so far aside from the 9in1 card reader cover on the front lip which seems to stick out (see attachments). I take that it's not supposed to be like this and am wondering if anyone else has had this issue before and how they resolved it. Obviously it's not a huge problem but it is annoying and I'd like to know if I can get a replacement cover somewhere. I'd rather not send the whole laptop back to Dell for this.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Push it in until it clicks.

The quiet click is the ejection of the card. Have you tried a little harder push? It is pretty firm. If it still doesn't work, call Dell?

Try getting the edge of your nail and use that to push the centre of the fake bezel as far as it will go into the reader untill you hear and feel a solid click then it should fit flush to the machine. It isnt easy getting it in, i can tell you that.

Definitely not the easiest going in, agreed. One of the worst I've seen in that regard, but it doesn't bother me much as I don't really need it. I have SD cards, but only my old Palm TX uses it among the stuff I have. I don't even use the thing anymore.

Now if the XPS had an XD reader that worked with the stupid formatting that Olympus puts on the cards in my camera, that'd be sweet (but Windows always wants to format it if it's been in the camera, the camera wants to format it if Windows did...*&@#(*%).

For me there aren't a lot of negatives with the L502X...but this card reader has got to be the worse worse thing I've seen in a long time. I have to lift the laptop up just to plug the SD card in.

The 702x's isn't any better, though of course it is the same part so no surprise there I suppose.

I was one of the first in the U.S. to order and receive the L502x, and I haven't had any problems removing or inserting the cover or any memory card into the slots. They function perfectly for me. I may have just gotten lucky.

My biggest beef with the XPS 15 is the ridiculous port and slot placement.

It's definitely not in the most ideal place. Sometimes I find it easer to throw the SD card in my wireless printer. I have the SD card slot in my printer mapped as a network drive, and get my data from there. This is only when there is a small amount of data to retrieve, as the wireless seems to slow down due to both the printer and laptop being on different SSID's and wireless frequencies.
