    Hi all

About 2 months ago my XPS 1340 screen began to flicker pretty bad. I could fix the problem by closing and opening the screen. Sometimes the flickering would continue, sometimes the screen would become "stable" and not flicker or shut off until I closed the lid.

It finally went dead one day. I replaced the LCD inverter and everything was fine for a week. Then the flickering began again. Same behavior as before. The entire time I assumed it HAD to be a hardware issue as the flickering was totally dependent on me opening and closing the screen, or pushing on the screen a little to induce some flickering.

I thought a wire may have been frayed and purchased a new one. The one that attaches to the motherboard, goes to the inverter and then back of the LCD unit. This appears to have done nothing.

What is going on here? I've replaced 2 hardware units and it has done nothing... Is it possible the inverter I purchased was shotty? Is it the motherboard? Has some solder gone back somewhere? Video card?

Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.

also it should be noted that the flickering NEVER occurs while booting up windows... only as soon as windows boots. i've tried replaying video card drivers in the past but that hasn't done anything.

i feel like whatever power is being provided to the inverter is somehow messed up, and it overloads the inverter, hence ruining the first one, and now damaging the second.

    Hey pfz3,

I've had this issue for the last 3 months and finally decided to try and figure out if I needed a new screen after the flickering got worse. The screen would flicker when I moved the lid and it was so bad that the lid would have to be at a 45 degree angle for it to come on.

I removed the palm rest, slapped the battery back on and plugged the keyboard cables back in so I can turn it on. After turning it on, I played with the angle of the screen and and noticed the video cable being tugged and everytime I touched it (where it was routed through the hinge area)with my screw driver, the screen would come back on. I ended up unplugging the video cable, undoing the short ground strap attached to it, flipping the wire to give it more slack (since the end is L-shaped, I turned it counter clockwise), and re-attached the ground strap. After turning it back on, I noticed I could move the lid as much as I want w/o the screen flickering or turning off. It's only been a day but so far, the screen is working.
