I have both models of the XPS 13, the original 9343 and the new 9350. Both have the upgraded QHD+ 3200x1800 display.

I've noticed the colors are off with the new 9350 which is esp. noticeable on the whites. I've played around with the settings (brightness, contrast, gamma, etc), but nothing I do can make the whites "whiter".

The 9343 has a brilliant white and the display quality is amazing. The new 9350 has a very noticeable brownish tint, making everything look washed out. See these photos:

I just wanted to get opinions on this -- Am I crazy or is this a very noticeable drop in quality? The new display looks like an an old movie from the 80s compared to the new one.

Is a monitor where the whites aren't "brilliant white" considered a lower quality monitor? I dropped a few hundred more on this upgraded monitor.

I want to raise this issue with Dell but wanted to get other opinions first and build a case.
    Thanks.

It's impossible really for anyone here to know what level your white point has been set at unless you do a calibration test yourself. Remember that proper calibration at 6.5K is a lot warmer than many are used to seeing. Blame the manufacturers for training our eyes badly in an attempt to make their panels stand out more on the shop floor.

Note also that you've posted a photo taken with a camera with its own white balance & color settings, and everyone here is viewing it on their own screens with different settings again. So nobody can get an accurate view from a photo alone, only a rough idea of relative temps. "My screen doesn't look like that" is the predictable response.

That said, even assuming that your panel has been calibrated properly, if it bugs you looking it then you should definitely return it and get something else.

Just looks like a color temp difference to me. Nothing inherently wrong. Most people are used to improperly calibrated displays with way too cool of a white point.
