This unfortunately is a downgrade to the 9370 for me.

    - IR Camera far better than fingerprint sensor (and yes the 9370 has both)
    - They had to increase top bezel thickness to incorporate the cam there. For something like this that is frustrating because I think I speak for the majority when I say that not only do most not use this, when we do use this, we probably don't really care if the angle is a bit off. Most of us aren't modelling ourselves I presume!
    - Whiskey Lake CPU added, yet no BT 5.0, no better WiFi (still the same Killer 1435 Wifi)? This was the main reason I was looking forward to this version, so we can rid that crap card and take advantage of the integrated WiFi controller of the Whiskey Lake chips.

    Fail, fail, fail.

Actually the nose cam is one of the biggest complaints from every reviewer and many users. If you actually use the webcam then having it in a normal location is a huge deal. In fact it was one of my reasons to get rid of the 9570 and keep the X1...

I have little to no faith in reviewers to actually provide useful insights when it comes to laptops. At this point, all I want are disassembly photos and long term benchmark data. I can somewhat trust them to do that, sometimes. Even NBC has a tendency to do silly things in their Thinkpad reviews, including a famous one where they bypassed power restrictions on the T480s because they felt it was doable, and presented that as their T480s performance data (without providing "stock" performance data).

So when they complain a webcam (which I never use - yay, more anecdotes!) is unflattering, it's just more aggregation of opinions.

Why do you need 32GB RAM on a thin 15W CPU laptop again? Makes no sense.

If you have a workflow which truly benefits from 32GB RAM (you'd be in the <0.1%), the XPS isn't the correct machine in the first place.

If you think you need 32GB RAM because you are seeing 14 GB RAM being utilised, that is just how RAM works, the more you have, the more it will use regardless if you need to or not for maximum performance. This doesn't mean you'd benefit in any real sense of having 32GB RAM. You can use up 30 GB RAM with enough Chrome tabs if you really want to, but it doesn't mean a thing.

I ordered one last week from the Dell website, 9380 with FHD non-touch screen, 16gb RAM, new "frost" color. I'm supposed to receive it by Feb. 7th. I'll update with my impressions when I do.

Any idea why Amazon and Best Buy have much better prices that the Dell website? XPS 13 and 15 for the same specs. One XPS 15 model was about $400 cheaper!

    Cheers,

It's not uncommon to have other retailers have cheaper prices than Dell. Dell typically prices high and then discounts with coupons. Amazon or BestBuy usually have their best prices listed. Dell's pricing is really volatile and some days you can get great deals and others not so much.

Is the 1080p screen option matte/non-glossy?

A reddit user has reported that his/her FHD SKU is matte https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comme...is_not_bringing_back_the_matte_screen/eexemmk

I have a FHD model on order and should be here on Tuesday so will also confirm. I'm wanting Glossy though so will be returning in the event it is matte.

This is the first time I've ordered a Dell product and I've been really frustrated by the lack of a clarity on the XPS 13 specifications. For example, Dell have published a Setup and Specifications pdf for the 9380 on their website ( UK version) and I don't have any faith in its accuracy. The document states that all display options are glossy which we now believe is wrong and, even more basic - they state that the 4K display has the same 166 PPI as the FHD panel!!!

This is quite peculiar; the Dutch website (specifically the user manual of the 9380) as well as support state that the 1080p non touch version should also be glossy. What country are you from, perhaps it’s different in different countries? Still, this inconsistency in matte vs. glossy is very weird, as I would in fact like a glossy display better.

I would like to know whether the new XPS 13 9380 system FHD non-touch configuration has a matte of glossy screen. Both Dpazz and Arctics confirm their configuration has indeed a matte screen, but like danielb said: based on Dells Dutch website, both FHD non-touch and touch and UHD versions all have glossy screens. Also, Dells chat agents keep referring to the product manual, but it contains lots of mistakes (for example same number of nits for FHD and UHD screen).

@dpazz, @arctics: Did you order on the consumer or business part of the website? Do you have a configuration number of your XPS system?

I ordered via consumer telephone but I feel that is irrelevant.

The root cause of the problem is that the specs are wrong on the Dell website. I even checked the US site and that links to the same document as that of the UK market. This is fairly typical for UK products but given that you are aying that the Dutch website is reporting glossy it would be sensible to suggest that the Dutch website is wrong also.

Basically, if you want a glossy display don't buy the non-touch FHD panel. Instead just wait until Dell launch the touch FHD panel. That's what I'm doing.

The weird thing is, though, I asked this question to someone who received their unit on Reddit too, and they indicated that their 1080p 9380 did have a glossy display. Other persons on Reddit claimed the opposite, and said they got a matte display. So it either seems like there's different versions of the screen for different regions, or that - indeed - the manual is just plain wrong.

I also spoke to a Dell agent over the phone when I placed my order specifically about the display type and they assured me it was glossy. Surprise to say when I called the same sales person back upon receiving the laptop, they did apologise and offered a discount off the 4K option (which has glossy). But not keen on getting a 4K panel due to battery life concerns. There's just no need to have a 4K resolution on a 13.3" display.
