This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Dell Webcam Central - is that software required?

    Is Dell Webcam Central software needed? Or, does the webcam work fine (with Skype, etc.) without it?

    If all the Dell Webcam Central software does is to provide those special effects, then I don't need it as I never use those effects. So, I wonder if it's actually required for normal webcam operation.

    It's not required, but it is a pain to find and redownload from Dell's support site, I recommend leaving it for your own sanity.

    Well, if it doesn't do anything useful (other than special effects, etc.) then it won't drive me insane if I don't have it. :)

    It's actually easy to download it, once you know where (which is sure not obvious and not well publicized). You login to your account on Dell's site, and then all pre-installed software is available for download.

    I don't use any of the effects, so if I can still use Skype, etc. without Dell Webcam Central, then I don't see why I'd need it. That's what I wanted to know, if there was any reason to have it.
