So I'm sort of regretting my decision to skip the Accidental Warranty and going instead for a simple 2 years XPS On Site/Next Day, because I notice in the Accidental Warranty clause, you can get your computer replaced by one of newer technology/equal capability.

Have any of you ever had that done under standard warranty in the event that the repairs are too difficult, or any other circumstance?

I still have until Thursday to return my laptop and reorder it. I could technically get this Accidental Warranty, but the 15% off coupon i got is no longer valid :/

Ugh, this doesn't sit well, for 200£ or so I could be future proofing my system considering they literally send you the newest model within the next 4 years.

I think I'm going to send this thing back, and reorder later, again... so inneficient, I just wish you could upgrade your warranty over the phone, but Accidental must be done at point of sale :(

From what I heard you can get accidental coverage after you order, within like a month. Maybe someone else can chime in with that.

As for getting a new laptop with standard warranty, you have to fight for it. We received an E1505 thats taskbar was somewhat below the bezel. We called Dell, they said it was normal. It got worse as the time went, and finally a few months later we sent it in. Turns out there were no screws in it, nor the hard drive, and probably nothing else either. We fought for probably about a month to have a whole new one sent, since this thing was wrong since the beginning and they told us it would fine.

We finally got a new one, I had an odd feeling Dell Support knew my name by the end. They seem irritated when they heard who I was - all my calls were with Escalated Support. By the time we got the new one Core2Duo had come out, so we got a better laptop in the end.

Thankfully everything was right that time.

I tried over the phone. They said Accidental Warranty can only be purchased at the point of sale, and cannot be added afterwards.

    Darn, I`m sorry about that.
If you feel you really need it, send it back and wait for another coupon, there's always one that pops around...

Yeah, there are usually coupons right for dell UK?? I think thats what I'm going to do. Realisitcally its summer so I don't even really need to be gaming all day on this thing, and I'm going away for 3 weeks.

I have to separate emotion from this and do the logical thing. The accidental support is totally worth the cost and I will regret not getting it a few years from now.

One other thought: quite a few insurance companies will provide accidental damage cover under your home contents insurance (mine insures most of the electronic goods I own, on a new-for-old basis). This may be as good a deal or better than Dell's cover...
