Which one should I get, 1340 or 1640 . Both have same specs (except for GPU and wireless thingie) :
    CPU : Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 2x2.4GHz/1066Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache.
    Chipset : NVIDIA GeForce® MCP79MX
    Memory : 4GB DDR3 at 1066MHz.
    HDD : 5000GB 7200rpm SATA.
    Optical : DVD+/-RW Slot(DVD/CD read/write)
    Battery : 56 WHr 6-cell
Software : Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition

Does the 13" weigh the same as MacBook 13", is the 16" too heavy ?

just the GPU who is the biggest difference between 1340 and 1640 :) (then we of course have the RGB screen who is second biggest difference)

    so the answer is this:
if you want to play a lot of games or working with photographs, 1640 is superior :)

I think the size and weight are pretty big (and obvious) differences too :p

If you want a computer to carry around with you all the time, you choose sxps13. If you're mainly using it at home on your desk, then sxps16 is the one. the latter is way better for gaming.

How do the new 16" laptops compare in size/weight to the old 15.4" laptops?

The weight of xps13 is same as white macbook. I had the macbook right b4 i bought the xps13 so I can tell you 100% that xps is the same weight or about. white macbook ofcourse is slimmer.

The difference between xp1340 and xps1640 are the gpu's! Also to note xps1340 offers a new upgrade to 210m gpu!! however the xps16 is still better and the newer xps16 models offer i7 processor!!! plus they have option for full 1080p (full HD screen resolution) and bluray drive. xps13 doesnt offer any of those! Plus xps16 offers slitly faster ddr3 which is 1333mhz! lol also a small built in subwoofer on the bottom!
there is a big difference in size. if your not a gamer and want a really fast laptop thats compact get xps13. if you dont mind a 3inch difference but want ultimate performance buy xps16! btw next best option from xps16 is the all new alineware 15x! much better gpu in there!

Im kinda in between both,I like bigger screen but i just dont know if i can go around with 4kg in my bag. Ive seen many threads about the heat, but which one is hotter (the 13" doesnt seem to have much room to let the air comes out :-?) and which has the longer battery life ( 6 cells).
and Alex I can see in your signature ,you overclocked ur CPU ,does it make the laptop hotter

honestly i never had a big heat problem, but anyway i still got dell to replace my motherboad to the renew revised one with different die packaging on 9400mg card (this basicly means they made it less of an oven) I also copper modded it so heat from the card goes quicker, but it doesnt leave the laptop quicker!!!

I can be honest and say that if i ever put my laptop on my lap it does really burn my left leg!! but on table no problem. I just quit my job recently and been using my xps13 for about 10 hours a day watching movies, music, all kinds of stuff. so I use it for a really long time, i have no problems. just dont keep it on your lap!

really go for xps16 it has a decent card! good i7 processor! its not to heavy!!
its not in category of thin and light. but its not wow heavy. its a wieght of a standard laptop! (laptop means portable) you'll still be able to move it around :)
BTW: overclocking didnt make it hotter just under stress it gets about 2-3c more but thats nothing!

the xps 1340 has the a newer card to offer now. the geforce 210m... its 512mb it a lil better performance than 9500mGE, and it work ter or lagg or overheat as much! so if your still thinking of a small notebook for with xps 13, if not go for xps 16 with i7

One other difference I noticed - the 1340 has Alps touchpad and the 1640 has Synaptics. Personally, I can't stand Alps touchpads, but thats just my two cents. :)

Also, they have different chipsets - nvidia in the 1340 and Intel in the 1640.

The drivers page shows the Synaptics too. My mistake. I could of sworn the 1340 I had briefly had an Alps. Sorry - nevermind on the touchpad :)
