    Individual owner's lounge now available.

Due to the fact that members took the "old" XPS Studio 13/16 thread off topic it had to be closed ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=291340&page=151 ).
However, as many members are interested in DELL's upcoming laptops this thread has been created in order to give members of this forum the opportunity to talk about anything related to the XPS Studio 13/16 laptops. Please, stay on topic - otherwise this thread will be closed as well. This means that it's not allowed to talk about any other laptop but the XPS.

Im confused? Are you saying XPS and Studio notebooks? The Studio is not an XPS notebook. It is just called Studio.

I gave permission to givemeanick to start a new thread. Despite our repeated warnings, the old one kept going off-topic. This one is slightly more open but nonetheless, it needs to stay on-topic.

One thing I noticed at Staples today is that there was no laptop there with a backlit keyboard. At least none that I could see. This appears to be a "custom" feature that can be had with Studio online purchsing. I really hope the new Studio XPS has a properly backlit keyboard. And by that,M I mean that the letters only not the whole space around the key is lit. I just think that would be so cool.

I really wish Dell would at least confirm or deny what is going on and give at least SOME details. I really want ESata myself, and OF COURSE, and LED screen. Maybe RGB LED, although I do not really knwo what that is. Think I will Google it now. Dave

    - Rgb Led
    - eSATA

Given how things are going worldwide for Dell (sales wise)
and the fact that this is a budget - mid range laptop, I think we're unlikely to see any nice touches with this laptop.

Though I suppose we can dream...

Inspiron is the budget line. This will be mid to upper. I figure sort of like Studio 15 in a blender with a M1330 :)

They actually got those images from Jayson himself. As in, they read that thread and then the news spread. Jayson was the first to find out.

I was installing a new driver for my Studio 1535 webcam today. I saw on the extract box "For Studio Laptop: 1435, 1535, 1536, 1537, 1735, 1737; Studio XPS Laptop: 1340, 1640"
Per Dell's own words, there will be two Studio XPS Laptops: a 13-inch and a 16-inch named 1340 and 1640 respectively (apparently they will both use Creative Labs' Webcams.)

This removes the myth about a 15-inch and 16-inch Studio XPS.

Sadly, this thread is two pages in and has zero information or value that we already don't know from the other pathetically long and useless thread. Why did we need this thread again? How about starting a thread when there's actually something to talk about.

Makes sense... a 13" and 16" will then not clash with Alienware's 15" and 17" offerings...

Wednesday this week, November 26th, 2008? The last time I heard Wednesday it was over a month ago and we still don't have any "new" news on the new XPS :p

This thread is hilarious. If you scan through the 1st 3 pages. It's just like the old thread.

The old slides indicated Hybrid SLI, thus NVIDIA.

Any mention of an ATI GPU in them is purely a combination of speculation and wishful thinking currently.

...since Dell no longer forces you to use their crappy stock driver, I'd prefer NVIDIA over ATI anyways. I've had nothing but trouble with ATI cards.

I've been putting of my new purchase for a couple months now and finally decided to go ahead and apply for financing for a current Studio 15 on the weekend. Today I got an email saying I was approved.

I emailed the guy and said I know this is a long shot, but I REALLY want to pick up the new studio xps hybrid that's rumored to be coming out soon. I know it's probably everyones priority to sell old stock but if there's any chance you can tell me if I should wait another week or two to buy it would be awesome.

The main reason I decided to give up was the talk in the other thread saying that even if they come out soon in the US, it probably won't show up on the Canadian site for another month.

But I think it would be AWESOME of the dell guy if he's somehow able to tip me off and help me buy the laptop I really want.

Either way I need something soon. I was hoping to give my mom my 6400/e1505 for Christmas (she has an old Inspiron, I think it's 1.4ghz, single core, 512mb ram, etc.)

NO it will not be focused on the STUDIO XPS. Half is on 1 business model line, the other half is on SOHO - Inspiron, Studio, Studio XPS.

Given the fact that Jayson says that the information, if any, will come from an internal webcast, I seriously doubt we can call it official. :)

But I do really hope it is a... "solid" rumour! :)

Sorry for going off topic again. But what I've been noticing is that we're all treating Jayson's words like Nostradamus' words. He said there would be a webcast on Wednesday. People will then spin it in a thousand directions until one of it may be right. If we spin it far enough with high probability one of the guesses will probably be correct.

All he's saying is that there would be a webcast on new models. Nothing about Studio XPS :p

Regarding this news, I believe someone posted this already last week or so in the old Studio XPS13/16 topic, IIRC. Engadget was just a bit slow to pick up on it.

Though... I was a bit more shocked to see that when I clicked on the link... it actually worked through the Canadian portal as well, and not just the US. o_O

That's good news for a simultanous North American release... one would hope.
