    Hi,
Dell offered to replace my XPS m1330 that I got from the outlet because I've already had 2 screens replaced(got laptop 3 monts ago). Should I keep it or exchange it for the SXPS 13?

I'm concerned about the overly blown up heat issues. Is the heat that bad with just the 9400m or is it only for the 9500m.

What other issues should I be concerned about the SXPS 13?

What is the average battery life(balanced, 50% brightness, browsing, youTube videos, iTunes)?

    Thanks in advance.

    I got a m1330 with Intel X3100, 4GB ram, 250 GB HD, T7500(2.2 Ghz, 4MB L2), LED screen, 6-cell.

The only thing keeping me from getting teh SXPS 13 is heat and battery life? I don't play too many games and battery life is somewhat important. I get close to 4 hours on my m1330(balanced, 50% brightness, browsing, YouTube) and 3 hours for movies.

It does get hot when you're playing games or doing anything else graphically intensive, but as long as you're not using it on your lap, you will be fine.

Also, if I were you, I would definitely take the exchange since the 1330 is old technology nowadays and you would get more support with the 1340.

Wow not been on these forums for a while, but there are STILL lots of worries about over heating problems. Just like when the XPS M1330 and XPS M1530 were the flagship laptop models (Ages ago in technology time of course)

Would have thought Dell would make sure it's not an issue. Personally my XPS M1530 never had heat problems and I never upgraded to the A09 firmware with earlier fan kick in.

If the problem is anything like the 1330 and 1530 - I.E Blown massively out of proportion then I wouldn't worry about the new SXPS 13 giving you any trouble.

I've been using my laptop for almost a month now, after I reformatted my 1340 it runs great.
I dont play games on it, and i usually have the 9200 GPU running only (as appose to SLI). During the day i have word, fire fox, and my zune software running at the same time and the performance does not skip. the only real time i use the SLI is if i'm watching movies and HD youtube just to be on the safe side.

But with regular use you should not have any heat issues. My 1340 runs just as hot as any other laptop.

I have an M1330, which is notoriously bad for overheating, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who lasts over 2 years without a mobo replacement, just check the vertical lines thread on this very forum. I think issues with M1530's on the other hand are very low. But on respects of blowing it out of proportion I disagree in it's entirety. I'd swap it for an SXPS 13 any day, at least i'd not have to worry about when it breaks (because it will), what I can salvage.

I was in the same boat. I got my 1330 w/ dicrete graphics in 01.2008, extended service, but because of the heat issue, I switched to a X61 tablet about 6 months ago, all the while, the 1330 was used by my wife to surf with a full-time cooler base.

About 1 month ago, it started having vertical lines and Dell replaced the mobo, then the tech borke the webcam cable, the next tech came with the web cam but no cable, he opened up the 1330 'just to see', meanwhile, he broke the connector on the mobo where the media control cable attached to. So when the next tech came with the web cam cable, he then ordered another mobo because the clip was not field replaceable, the final tech came with the mobo and when he put everything together, he stripped one of the 2 screws holding the keyboad and the media control has button failure. The kb is annoying because the one working screw & tension from the media control bar do not hold it securely.

Here I am waiting for a 1340 to be delivered, let's hope this one lasts a bit longer.

Thanks for the advice guys. Last thing holding me is the battery life on the SXPS 13. Right now, the LED and Intel Video give me around 3.5-4 hours for browsing, YouTube, word, iTunes.

Does any one know if Dell will let me try out the SXPS 13 for a week or so and then return it and keep my 1330.

Cannot tell much on battery life as I just rec'd my 1340, so far it has been behaving well after 1.5 hours. Build quality is fine, nothing lifting or popping out of place.

After I let it burn-in, I just have to decide if I should ditch Vista 64 and load up 7 Pro.

Heat is not an issue right now, but I am only doing minimal work on it.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the xtended battery, extra A/C, and red lid + couple keyboards ;)
