    Hi Everyone!

Tomorrow I will be ordering the Dell Studio XPS 17.3" for 1.5k.

It comes with EVERYTHING I've always wanted such as i7, 1tb HD, blu ray, 6g ram, etc.

My only quarrel is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670.

    1) Can this card handle all current games on high/max?

    2) Can I upgrade it in the future by swapping it with something better?

    Thanks ^___^

Edit: Ugh, upon reading these forums it's not looking to good. So I guess I can't switch it, ever? That's a bummer and VERY disappointing because I was told over the phone by a sales rep that I could ....

    :(

There is no 17" Studio XPS. You're talking about the 16" SXPS, right?

That being said, the graphics chip on said 16" SXPS is soldered to the motherboard. If you want to change it, you will need to replace the motherboard. It is possible that the current 16" SXPS chassis may get a compatible, refreshed motherboard with better components, but, very, very, unlikely.

So effectively, the answers are no, and no.

Moral of the story: don't trust sales reps.

Sorry - I'm not good with computer tech stuff ><

    It's the Studio 17
    w/
    6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
    Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    (the one for 1499$)

Edit: I was also looking atthe xps 16 but the video card seems very close in family 4670 Ati

    Same deal, really.

And now that I think about it, I don't think Dell has any laptop in their current lineup with a GPU that isn't soldered to the motherboard (unless you count the onboard GPU of some Core i3/i5/i7 chips or Alienware).

I haven't really searched how Studio 17 deals were, as I bought Studio 1558. But this seems to be a pretty good deal:

8GB, 1TB, and 720QM for 1299 (if you would take the non-FHD screen.)
