    Not sure about the L502x, as it uses sata III, but they were using Samsung 470's in their L501x models. Either way, your're better off buying an ssd through online means and not dell. You'll get a faster drive, same reliability, and longer warranty, all at a lower price than what dell wants.

    I consider the ssd offrered by Dell for 2 reasons :

    1 - 400$ for a 256gb ssd drive didn't seems to bas as a bad deal and;
    2 - From the review i read, it's quite a PITA to reach the hdd in the L502x

    However, if the drive isn't good (fast nor reliable), that's a thing to consider.

    The Samsung drive isn't bad. And unlike with Dell's unbelieveable RAM upgrade prices, the SSD price isn't really much higher than the newegg price for the same drive. Yes, there are better ones out there for less, and I would probably opt for a Crucial M4, but if you're not comfortable working with laptop internals the Samsung is alright, and it's covered under Dell service/warranty.

    Well for me Dell was charging WAY over market for SSDs (US). We are talking something like $500+ for a 256GB SATA II. But that was 2 months ago, and US pricing, I don't know about where else. $400 for 256GB is very reasonable, I was thrilled to get my M4 for a little less than that! But it does depend on what brand they are using, that said I doubt it is a Sandforce-base so you'll be good.

    I wouldn't buy an SSD with the laptop, but that's just my preference. I'd rather pick my own aftermarket drive than get whatever Dell is throwing into them.

    When I ordered my L502x on release day, Dell want $550 for a 256GB SSD. No way when it was a sata II only. You want a newer sata III drive to put in that new laptop. If you get it from Dell, you get the standard 1 year warranty on it. If you buy a Crucial M4 or Intel, you'll get up to a 5 year warranty. Big difference in speeds and warranty, all with equal reliability going aftermarket.

    Replacing the SSD will take less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Then the fresh Windows and drivers install time will depend on your knowledge. That also gives you the chance to remove all the bloatware dell installs from the factory.

    $400 isn't a bad deal and that's what Dell was asking last time I looked (a few months back), but looking again now Dell wants $510 for it, which is a total rip-off.

    Very easy to swap them out, just remember to remove the screw that goes into the palm rest, it's under the battery and marked with a 'K' instead of whatever letter the others are marked with under there.

    It's also offset from all of them.
