I bought my m1530 in march of 08 minus the dead screen upon arrival everything has been working fairly well, that is until yesterday when i went to power it on and to no avail. Checked 2 diferent ac adaptors and tried off the battery nothing would boot the laptop. I called dell and they are going to send a new MB and have a tech call to replace the mb.

Two questions one are all the mb's refurbs? that seems like a sketchy idea to have the most important part of the computer be a refurb. Also has this happened to anyone else? Seems when i spent the $1500 on this laptop it should have lasted more than 2 years. I work in IT and have had many computers over the years and never had a computer work 100% one day and the next day not even boot at all.

Is there a way for me to possibly try to trade mine in to dell for a comparable laptop maybe a studio 15? even though price wise it seems cheaper than what i had and its the i7.

They are not going to give you a replacement without first trying to fix the motherboard. No, from knowledge the motherboards are not refurbished, but even if it is, it won't be an issue - they are all tested etc. To get a replacement you have to go through at least 3 tech fixes from memory.

I am guessing 3 times for the same issue? I have had tech guys come out a few times but for different issues.

And my understanding was all replacement parts are refurbs.

Everything is marked refurb even if it's not refurbished.

No, I had 3 different issues and then I was issued a replacement, but it probably works both ways.

Not all of them are, for example, my replacement laptop is brand new (being built as we speak). Some chips may be refurb, but I have no idea. I don't think it really matters either as they are all tested. If you have already had issues with the laptop, then push for a replacement but I am not going to guarantee anything. Word around here is that Dell offer you a replacement, but won't agree to one if you ask.

Yeah I had them come out twice for a screen issue. Then a battery issue now this. Hopefully if they fix it that will be the end of my troubles.
