Just another user with m1330 problems here :)

Have finally got Dell to agree to replace my motherboard (my 3rd in 18 months), but they say I also need a new heatsink/fan to fix my overheating GPU problems (100 degrees + under load). They are doing the motherboard under warranty, but refusing to pay for the heatsink. According to them, the two issues are not connected...

My question is, is there any point having the heatsink replaced if it's just going to be the same defective component?
Or does anybody know if Dell are now using decent heatsinks...?

    Many thanks!

Take a look at the M1330 copper mod. You can improve the efficiency of the heatsink by inserting a small copper plate between heatsink and GPU.

Yeah, I have been looking at that and am seriously considering it.
I was just wondering whether it is worth having the heatsink replaced first or whether I'll just be wasting even more money on Dell...

Probably won't make much of a difference unless your particular heatsink is more defective than the original design (which is itself defective, hence the need for the copper mod).

Yeah sounds like it's very much a case of putting a sticking plaster on a broken leg... :)

Will have it replaced anyway ("only" 36 GBP) and see what happens!

I remember seeing somewhere that there is a redesigned heat sink for _M1330. Buy only if you can get that, otherwise there is absolutely no point in buying the same heatsink again; because the problem is with the design.

@jackstraxx: Have you tried cleaning all the fluff out of the cooling filter? It's behind the fan fins. I've had my laptop for a little over a year and recently I'd been having overheating problems. As soon as I pulled out all the fluff, the problems have totally gone away.
