    Hello,

Is anyone here able to to tell me which start up programs on my M1330 are essential?

Is there anyway that I can just wipe everything, and install Vista only (along with drivers, etc)?

Thank you, and apologies if this has been posted before.

Use your Vista OS disc that came with your notebook. Use it to boot, delete all partitions, create the required partitions, format and install the OS. Once OS is installed download drivers from Dell, Intel and LaptopVideo2Go.

yes you can, and i would recommend it. those "modded" drivers cause people lots of problems where the dell ones don't. However, i would recommend you get all of your drivers from dell's website because they are more up to date than your driver cd is.

Better off using drivers from Intel's website and then the remaining ones from Dell's website.

If you do that you are asking for trouble. Many drivers are proprietary and made for the software manufacturer.

The best thing you can do is use the drivers from the Dell site first IF they are updated and then your disk.

This doesnt apply to your video which I WOULD go to laptopvideo2go.com for (See the appropriate entry in my tweaks thread relating to video).

    Guys,

What is the D: Recovery Partition for? When would I ever need to use it, and how would I use it?

Just been playing round with clean installs and stuff... Got the hang of it, and want to know more!

Also, I did a 'test' clean install and it created a Windows.old folder. Is this folder safe to delete?

Oh, and why do you guys prefer to follow the clean install method described in the other thread (the long thread which goes through MediaDirect)?

Apologise for all the questions, just don't want to stuff it up and would like to know what I'm doing before I go ahead.

    Chris

The recovery partition is for just that, recovery purposes if your system dies or anything
I did a clean install today and got rid of it, personally I think it's useless
Yeah, use the dell mediadirect method in that thread

Okay, I've formatted and got my system just how I wanted it.

Problem - I noticed that since formatting, my wireless signal is only showing as "Good", previously always showed up as "excellent". The only driver that I installed for the wireless connection was the Broadcom one from the Dell Drivers Disk, was there something else that I needed to install?

    Thanks.
