    Hey there,

My almost 5 year old Dell XPS M1530 died a few weeks ago; now when I turn it on I can see artifacts in the screen while it displays the Windows loading logo.. and then the screen goes like in the attached picture at the botto, of the post.

My guess is that the graphics card died, but I wanted a second (or more) opinion(s) about this, because I would like to fix it myself, but I need to know what parts I need to buy and how much would it cost.

Any advice on this is kindly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards.

How about on an external monitor? If that works, there's a good chance it's not the GPU. Otherwise, you need to replace the motherboard to replace the GPU, and these M1530 are still pretty expensive (probably because of the high failure rate).

Then you are basically hosed. Given that there is no Intel mobo option, I would honestly part out the rest of it and invest in a new machine. Even if you got another motherboard, who knows how long that would last.

Mine died last summer. I found this guy, and he fixed it. I took pictures to make sure he actually replaced the graphics chip, which he did. That said, it took 2 trips, as the first time i was sent back the wrong GPU. He blamed a bad bunch of chips from china.

So yeah, do this at your own risk. I'm using my m1530 right now to type this, no issues since getting it back with the proper chip in it, and the work was clean. There may be others providing the same service these days.
