So I recently installed 32-bit XP on my Studio XPS 16, and I'm having a couple problems. I followed the guide on how to install XP on my system that is somewhere in this forum ( http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19260599/19476587.aspx), and these are the problems I have left.

    1) My DVD drive doesn't work. It'll read regular CD's perfectly fine, but it just won't read a DVD, and it'll auto-eject PC DVD's with games on them (like Bioshock). This is the only problem I NEED to fix, and it's extremely frustrating, since it worked perfectly fine before and I can't find any other instances of this happening.

    2) In my Device Manager, I have 2 errors left - 1 ! on the 1394 Network Adapter, and 1 ? on an Unknown Device. I've seen that others have had this problem, but I haven't been able to find a solution.

    3) My damn typing cursor! Whenever I'm typing anything in a web page or document, my cursor will spontaneously jump to a random place in the document in the middle of me typing, which causes a lot of frustration as half the word that I was typing is now inserted into the middle of another word. I've never had this happen before. Anyone know why it does that?

    4) Now this is going to sound odd, but my sound is acting kind of wacky. Specifically, any game that I fire up (I've currently had it happen with Starcraft and Diablo 1), the soundtrack is played in a key a half-step lower than it originally does. In the end, it obviously doesn't mean that much, but it's kind of annoying since I've heard these soundtracks so much and also because it makes them sound really minor and depressing.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

P.S. This cursor thing is getting REALLY annoying.

DVD drive could certainly be a faulty drive. Get it replaced under warranty asap just incase. My drive has started to go again, and one of the problems is that it ejects discs automatically sometimes, then you restart and the DVD drive disappears.

The cursor could be that you don't have the correct touch pad driver installed. Ensure it is up to date and the correct driver.

For your audio problem, do you use Windows Media Player? There are settings in there that can alter pitch and key etc of your sound, if you change it in WMP it effects the entire systems sounds. It happened to me years ago on a Windows XP desktop and I never managed to actually fix it lol.
