    Hi there.

I have been having some problems with by laptop screen. In essence, it works, but depending on how the screen is angled, or sometimes if i have been carrying laptop arround, the screen loses it picture and instead becomes a messy array of coloured lines. This is also replicaple by pushing on upper center of the screen.

Does this sound like problem with screen, or more likely inverter or flex cable. ( i have only learnt latter few terms from pulling screen apart to see if there was obvious solution)

Also if it was a problem with the screen, what should i replace it with. There appears to be loads of 15.4" screens out there. Does anyone know of any sort of list of LCD displays screens that are compatable with a Dell M1530 and other laptops, or does it have to be a screen specific to that model or will anything do. I really have no idea on these things.

    Many thanks in advance.

Try to output to an external display... if that looks good, then the problem is with your monitor or display cable. Otherwise, it's most likely a GPU issue, given that you have an M1530.

If the screen is damaged and you have a CCFL screen, you can basically take a CCFL screen from any 15.4" Dell of the same generation... Inspiron 1520, 6400, Latitude D830, D820, Vostro 1500, Precision M4300, etc.

If you have the LED screen... I'm not sure what you can get. You probably have to find a specific M1530 LED screen, as no other 15.4" Dell of the time had an LED screen. Maybe E6500 will work, maybe not.

Ya as Commander Wolf stated, you may be a late victim of the defective Nvidia chips, see if it displays externally.

You also need to know which M1530 you have, LED or CCFL. The LED is super thin on the M1330 and M1530, I think you may need to get the Dell FRU, just buying a 15.4" LED screen won't just work.

I replaced my screen last summer, upgrading from 1650x???? to 1920x1200. It was a process that took 3 months, and 3 different screens, before i finally found the right one.

Even known "compatible" models have sub models that you need to be aware of. Also, a lot of places sell "compatible" models of screen by different manufacturers. I personally suggest using only LG screens on this model if you have the CCFL style. I may be wrong, but i think there was only ever one model of the LED screen.
