    Hi all,

First off must say I love this laptop..

My question is I want to watch some Blue-Ray movies and Im trying to figure out what is the best way to hook up my laptop to my TV so that I get audio and video output.

I recieved a DVI to HDMI cable which will cover the video part.. But I dont think this will cover the audio part.

Therefore what is the best thing to buy so that I can hook the audio up also?

Atm it will be going directly into my TV, however I will soon have a 5.1 reciever and would like to hook the laptop up through that eventually..

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forums.

Does your TV have a analogue audio input with the HDMI?

I think a normal 3.5mm male to male audio wire would suffice.. , you can connect this to the back of your TV from the laptop (headphone pin).

Not all TVs have a 3.5mm audio-in with the HDMI input, so it depends on his TV

Yes, that is a top notch notebook... the best there is in my opinion!

You get sound with the HDMI cables, but you need to turn the sound on by clicking the sound icon in taskbar and picking HDMI there. It also lets you pick whether to have sound on both TV & notebook or not.

I have the XPS m1530 notebook and all I had to do was hold down ctrl or fn, (I forget which one) and push F8 once for the TV or twice for the TV and notebook.

Oh yes, be sure to have the TV set on the correct "input" too.

    I hope this helps... :)

The M1730 has a DVI port, not a HDMI port like the M1530, he using an adapter, which means he needs to get audio to the TV somehow.

    and click see larger image.

to get good stero sound you need one of these cables. the only pic i could find was with an icube. it has the red and red that combine into a headphone jack. this gives you your stereo sound. they work really well. i use my laptop on my home theatre and tv, or my 500watt stereo in my room when i listen to music, connected by this cord. another good thing, you can plug anything with a headphone jack into a stero, home theater or tv, and play your music using these cables.

Whether a 3.5mm-RCA cable would work depends on the TV, some have RCA in with HDMI, some have 3.5mm in with HDMI, and some don't support analogue audio in with HDMI at all.

    Mine works fine.

    DVI-HDMI for video
    3.5mm cable for audio.

I think it is time to bang my head against a wall, how difficult is it for people to get that not all TVs have the same inputs, so what works for you might not work for the OP.
