I was also wondering if anyone has tried any of the Clear protection skins that are available such as Invishield or Phantom Skinz since it appears that this laptop (XPS 16) is such a fingerprint magnet and now i'm seeing from earlier posts that it is prone to minor scratches. I am tough on my lappy since I carry it with me everyday so something like this might be worth it to protect my new investment..... Let me know everyones thoughts, I just ordered my XPS 16 and would like to keep it as scratch free as possible

    email bestskinsever.com

they have a large uncut skin that you can cut yourself to fit your devices (and cheaper too)

reportedly, its the same material that InvisibleSheidl uses, but IS has a lifetime warranty(anything happen to the shield, u pay shipping back and they'll send you a new one free.. BSE doesn't have this, but its cheaper)

No way would I recommend cutting it yourself for a laptop. You won't ever get the same clean results. You can try on the screen but the edge to edge may be a problem. I'm not sure how good it would be if you are putting it on the palm rest areas. It would have a cool grip, resist scratching and fingerprints but may peel or be hard to apply.

i cut it myself.... its not that professional, but its that bad.... cut it out for my palm rest and the top of the laptop (m1330, where the big dell logo is)... it's been working fine for over 6 months... hasn't peeled, resists scratching and fingerprints..

and don't use this on the screen.... use an actual screen protector (try buyviewguard.com)

I just got an email from Zagg which is the manufacturer of InviShield and they said if they get enough interest they will start producing a kit for the 1640 they are the best product out there and would certainly endorse it and they have GREAT customer service.
Anyone interested PLEASE email them with your request they have been known to send out free kits initially to test the product............

If anyone else would like to help by showing their interest in ZAGG developing the invisibleSHIELD for the Studio XPS 16, I've provided a quick link:

    Go to: http://www.zagg.com/hotgadgets/index.php

Select Device: Laptop, Brand: Dell, Model: Studio XPS 16, then put in whatever personal information you'd like. If you provide real information, you may even be selected to test a free one.

These things are great and incredibly protective. The 1640 could use this skin more than most laptops, so let's make it happen.

Spoke to Zagg yesterday and they will make the skins if there is enough interest, so please let them know. The skins will eliminate all scraches on the lid and palm rest areas. Think about it, a scratch free lappy that will stand the test of time!!!
