Every since i got the A09 update the cpu underclocks whenever i go above a certain temperature(which i think is like 75-80 degs) so everytime i play a game or watch an HD movie my cpu temps jump from 45 degrees to 75-85, and that causes the cpu (t8300) to go from 2.4ghz down to 1.6ghz(even on high preformance with AC adapter in), so any game just lags crazy, and HD movies start to go super slow after a while. And these temps are me playing on a desk, and Not on a bed or anything, and i really cant bring a fan with me in my backpack cause i play games or watch movies during school to. Also the problems still happen when my computer being undervolted.
Is there anyone else getting this problem, or does anyone know what i could do to disable the stupid underclocking,
I cant open up the laptop and try to get out any dust there might be in the fans(which i doubt there are any), or reapply thermal paste for a while cause all my paste and tools are back home and Im in college at the moment.
I might just have to turn in my laptop to warranty cause it not only gets hot but the touch pad randomly lags when im in the middle of using my computer, and there is a small dead pixel in the middle of my screen thats not really noticeable because its white.

Oh and my laptop just shut off a few mins ago, when i had a game running in the background because the cpu temp got to 85 degrees.
This is really really annoying because im on a desk and it gets to hot, and it even did an emergancy shut off on my laptop when i had an essay being typed up, and game in the background, that didnt get saved so i ended up losing my work.
And does applying new thermal paste void the warranty for a laptop? -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Do not apply new thermal paste, it will void your warranty. Call Dell.

I agree, do not touch the paste.
There's somehing seriously funny with those temps, (as in wrong with the laptop not the bios) I've the same cpu and it never goes near those sorts of temps even under very intensive tasks.
Call dell and get it fixed. -
Your CPU is doing exactly what it should be doing; downclocking to prevent damage. The problem is that your computer is overheating as 75C shouldn't even be the maximum temperature.
Things you can do before calling Dell:
1) Check your power settings in Vista
2) Make sure that your fans are working
3) Make sure the vents are not obstructed
4) Clean the unit of any dust using a powerful vacuum cleaner and a canister of compressed air (make sure there is no dust before going through the inconvenience of calling Dell)
As advised above, do not apply thermal paste because it will void your warranty; if you run out of options, call Dell. -
I guess ill just open up the fan area and see if there is dust build up, and than if there isnt ill get some new paste, and if its still bad ill get rid of the new paste and put in the junky ones the come with stock, as long as there is no warranty sticker to void.
My brother did it on his asus and it runs much cooler now, and it broke later on (because of something else) and they still fixed it under warranty.
All this bad stuff started to happen after the bios update, seems like it caused more problems than fixed.
Cant play games or movies without lagging cause bios update
